Metformin Tablets
$40.00
Gliclazide and Metformin Tablets are a combination therapy used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially in individuals whose blood glucose levels are not well controlled by diet, exercise, or single-drug therapies. This powerful combination brings together Gliclazide, a sulfonylurea that stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin, and Metformin, a biguanide that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose production in the liver. Together, they help lower blood sugar levels more effectively, improving overall glycemic control and reducing the risk of diabetes-related complications like heart disease, kidney failure, and neuropathy.
Uses of Gliclazide and Metformin Tablets
This combination is primarily prescribed to treat type 2 diabetes in patients who cannot achieve optimal blood sugar control with diet and exercise alone. Gliclazide helps increase insulin production, while Metformin addresses insulin resistance and reduces excess glucose production in the liver. By combining these two mechanisms of action, this therapy provides better control over blood sugar levels. It is often used in patients who have not responded to other oral medications, providing a comprehensive approach to diabetes management. Regular monitoring of blood sugar is important to ensure the therapy remains effective.
Side Effects of Gliclazide and Metformin Tablets
Common side effects of Gliclazide and Metformin Tablets include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and a metallic taste, particularly due to the Metformin component. Hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, is a risk with Gliclazide, especially if meals are skipped or excessive exercise is undertaken. Additionally, weight gain may occur in some individuals, primarily due to the insulin-stimulating action of Gliclazide. Rare but serious side effects include lactic acidosis, a potentially life-threatening condition linked to Metformin, which can cause symptoms like muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or extreme tiredness. Immediate medical attention should be sought if any of these symptoms appear.
Drug and Product Interactions
Gliclazide and Metformin can interact with other medications, including diuretics, corticosteroids, certain heart medications, and other diabetes drugs. Alcohol consumption should be limited as it can increase the risk of lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia. Certain antibiotics and antifungals may affect blood sugar levels or interact with the medication, making it difficult to control glucose levels. Always inform your healthcare provider of any other medications, supplements, or herbal products you are taking to avoid harmful interactions and ensure the safe and effective use of this combination therapy.
Warnings and Precautions
This medication should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney problems, as it may increase the risk of serious side effects like lactic acidosis. Gliclazide and Metformin are not recommended for individuals with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Regular monitoring of kidney function, blood glucose levels, and vitamin B12 levels is important for individuals on long-term treatment with this combination. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their healthcare provider before using this medication, as adjustments may be necessary. As with all diabetes treatments, lifestyle changes like diet and exercise are crucial for optimal results. Patients should be educated on the signs of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis and instructed to take the medication exactly as prescribed.
Conclusion
Gliclazide and Metformin Tablets provide an effective and balanced approach to managing type 2 diabetes. By combining the insulin-stimulating action of Gliclazide with the insulin-sensitizing and glucose-lowering properties of Metformin, this combination therapy offers superior blood sugar control. With proper medical supervision, regular monitoring, and adherence to lifestyle changes, it can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals living with diabetes and reduce the risk of long-term complications.

Isotretinoin is a stereoisomer of all-trans retinoic acid (tretinoin).
